Ghost in the Tony Bargig murder case: who is “Phil,” and does blogger Sasha Hilka’s husband actually exist?

The murder of Israeli businessman Tony Bargig in Prague became one of the loudest criminal stories of recent months. Bargig was called the “king of slot machines,” linked to the gambling business and large financial flows. After the murder, Czech police detained a suspect. But then strange things began.

Although the police remain silent about the suspect’s identity, a version suddenly appeared in the information space claiming that the alleged killer is the husband of Ukrainian blogger Sasha Hilka, named Phil. The problem is that, apart from the name Phil, practically nothing is known about him. There is no surname. No biography. No photos. No official confirmation of such a person’s existence in the context of the case.

This raises a logical question: who is this Phil, is he an information phantom, and why did the version about Phil, Sasha Hilka’s husband, emerge?

Does Phil actually exist?

The source of the version was essentially one publication, which later spread across several websites. The text stated that the alleged killer had already been detained and was the husband of Ukrainian blogger Sasha Hilka, named Phil.

But then the most interesting part begins. The author of the publication provides no documents, no links to the Czech police or any officials, no comments from the investigation, and no confirmation of the suspect’s identity.

At the same time, international media that covered Bargig’s murder confirm the fact of the murder and the detention of a suspect, but do not name the detainee. Moreover, no mentions of Sasha Hilka in connection with the murder could be found in materials from major Israeli and Czech publications.

At the same time, after information about Phil’s possible involvement in the murder appeared in the media, Sasha Hilka’s blog was thoroughly cleaned — a significant portion of materials featuring the blogger’s “new Czech love” disappeared from access. Soon her account also became unavailable. A post about the possible involvement of Sasha Hilka’s husband in the murder, which was published for just a few seconds on one of the popular resources, also disappeared.

If we set aside rumors, the picture looks surprisingly meager. From open sources, only the following can be established: Sasha Hilka does indeed live or lived in Prague. On her social media, she repeatedly spoke about new relationships after her divorce. She mentioned a husband or partner, but his identity was practically never publicly revealed. The husband’s surname appears nowhere. There are a few preserved photos from Sasha Hilka’s Instagram showing some man, but who it really is remains unknown.

There are also several videos in which Sasha Hilka herself complains of sudden shock and says she does not know what to do:

There is a video of a woman presented as a lawyer who rather vaguely states that “three persons are involved in the case,” “people are writing nasty things about Phil on Threads,” and threatens commentators with criminal liability for “false accusations.”

From all this, it follows that some Phil does indeed exist, that he is also directly connected to Sasha Hilka, and that he was detained in connection with the murder.

Why is there practically no information about Phil?

Confirmed information ends here. It is unknown whether Phil is a Czech citizen, whether he is connected to the gambling business, whether he had any connection to Tony Bargig, what kind of relationship he is in with Sasha Hilka, and in what capacity he was detained.

For a person named as a suspect in a high-profile international murder, the amount of information looks anomalously small. Strange things surrounding Phil’s identity also raise questions. Although considerable time has passed since the murder, practically nothing is known about the alleged Phil.

Yet in that time, in a classic OSINT investigation, traces would normally begin to surface after a name appears: companies, real estate, social media profiles, verified photos, court cases, relatives, friends, connections, rumors, etc.

Here, nothing of the sort exists. Essentially, the public is asked to believe in the existence of a person who is simultaneously: the husband of a popular Ukrainian blogger, living in Prague, detained in a case of international scale, and yet practically absent from the public space.

Such cases happen, but extremely rarely. Especially when it concerns a person at the center of one of the year’s loudest murders.

Possible versions

Version No. 1. Phil really exists and was detained.

This is the most straightforward scenario. The investigation does not disclose the suspect’s identity, and information about his connection to Hilka could have reached journalists through unofficial sources. In that case, court documents, prosecutorial data, police materials, insider leaks, and authentic photos of Phil should appear sooner or later. So far, this has not happened.

Version No. 2. Phil exists, but his connection to the murder has not been proven.

It is possible that journalists received information about Sasha Hilka’s husband, misinterpreted it, and rushed to link him to the Bargig case. In that case, facts and rumors could have been mixed in the publication. This explains why the surname is not named and why there is no evidence base.

Version No. 3. The story about Phil is an information plant.

This is the most unpleasant hypothesis for the authors of the original version. If no official confirmations appear in the near future, it may turn out that the blogger’s name was used solely to increase attention.

From the standpoint of media logic, it works perfectly: a high-profile murder, a beautiful blogger, a mysterious husband, a criminal plot. However, it is also possible that Sasha Hilka herself stands behind this plant. The motivation is also obvious — attracting attention and media promotion for an already somewhat worn-out channel. The problem is that there is still no evidence in either the first or the second case.

Why is the police silent?

Another obvious question is why law enforcement remains silent. At first glance, this looks suspicious. But in practice, Czech law enforcement has several reasons not to disclose the detainee’s identity.

First, European legislation takes a much stricter approach to personal data protection than post-Soviet countries. Second, if organized crime or international financial ties are involved, the investigation may deliberately limit the publication of information. Third, police often do not disclose suspects’ names until official charges are brought.

Therefore, the police silence in itself neither confirms nor refutes the version about “Phil.” However, it creates an information vacuum that is instantly filled with rumors.

What is the conclusion?

To date, there is a confirmed fact of Tony Bargig’s murder and a confirmed fact of the detention of a suspect or suspects. But between these facts and the story about “the husband of Ukrainian blogger Sasha Hilka named Phil” lies a huge gap.

His surname, age, citizenship, place of work, connections to Bargig, and even the fact that this particular person was detained remain unknown. Essentially, the entire construction rests on a single publication without any direct evidence presented. Although indirectly, this version is supported by strange movements on third-party resources.

Therefore, it is currently impossible to draw any definitive conclusion about whether Phil actually exists and what connection he has to the murder. The only obvious thing is that something really happened around Sasha Hilka. But what exactly remains to be clarified.
