Court Softens Preventive Measure for Colonel Chervinsky

The Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv changed the preventive measure for Colonel Roman Chervinskyi — instead of nighttime house arrest, he was placed under personal surety. This is reported by Hlavkom with reference to the military lawyer Kostyantyn Hloba.

According to him, the court made the decision after the objections and additional materials submitted by the defense. 'Today the Constitution of Ukraine prevailed. Based on the objections and materials I submitted, my client’s preventive measure was changed to personal surety,' Hloba stated.

The lawyer also noted that when making the decision, the court applied provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine as a directly applicable norm. 'This procedural gesture is not characteristic of the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv, but it really happened,' he added. Previously Chervinskyi was under nighttime house arrest.

For reference, Roman Chervinskyi is accused of conducting an unlawful operation to recruit a Russian pilot, which ended with the strike on the Canatove military airfield in Kirovohrad region in the summer of 2022 year. As a result of the missile attack, the commander of the military unit died, 17 servicemen were wounded, and two Soviet Air Forces fighters were destroyed.

In April 2023 year Chervinskyi was detained, and the court chose him a preventive measure in the form of custody for 60 days without the possibility of posting bail. In July 2024 year Chervinskyi was released from the pre-trial detention center after posting bail in the amount of 9 million UAH.

Subsequently, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv granted prosecutors’ motion and imposed house arrest on him within a separate criminal proceeding — regarding the bribery case concerning $100 thousand UAH, which concerns events in 2020 year.
