Members of Zelensky’s team face lustration: names given

Volodymyr Zelensky proposed lustrating everyone who held power over the past five years.

His team drafted a bill according to which those subject to lustration are persons who, during the period from 23 February 2014 to 19 May 2019, held the positions of President of Ukraine, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, Prosecutor General, Head of the SBU, head of the Antimonopoly Committee and the State Property Fund, chairpersons of the State Fiscal Service and Customs, Secretary of the NSDC, and heads of defense enterprises.

It is also proposed to lustrate members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and members of the government from that period. Although the text of the document is not yet available, from the president’s statement one can assume that the following representatives of his team fall under the law:

NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Danyliuk, who served as Minister of Finance in Volodymyr Groysman’s government.

Chair of the supervisory board of Ukroboronprom Aivaras Abromavicius, who was Minister of Economy in Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s government.

Chair of the State Customs Service Maksym Nefyodov, who previously was Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade. Although he is not a member of Zelensky’s team, he recently took part in the high-profile meeting with customs officers.

Vadym Prystaiko — a candidate for the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 2012 to 2014 he was Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, and afterwards served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Sergiy Leshchenko — he is a member of the Ze team but is running to the Rada as an independent candidate.

At the same time, the current parliament cannot pass the law because it has completed its work.
