Appeal left preventive measures unchanged for Kaufman, Borukhovych and their “cashier” Yefremov

The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court left in place the detention of Odesa businessmen Borys Kaufman and Alex Borukhovych.

They are considered the leaders of a criminal organization that took control of the Odesa city council. Detention was also left in place for their associate Kostiantyn Yefremov.

The amounts of alternative bail also remained unchanged: 129, 124 and 19,8 million UAH respectively. Bails for all the suspects were posted in December and they were released from pretrial detention.

There are also suspicions in this case against three officials of the Odesa city administration. These are the first deputy mayor of Odesa, Mykhailo Kuchuk; the head of the executive committee apparatus, Oleh Bryndak; and deputy mayor Svitlana Bedreha. Mayor Trukhanov is currently listed as a witness, although he has attended interrogations at the NABU.

In early January Kuchuk was officially dismissed from the post of first deputy allegedly “at his own request.” Trukhanov also ordered that he be given a full settlement and be paid compensation for 70 days of unused vacation.

Returning to the main suspect Kaufman, his “bad streak” in the NABU case did not end.

The CEO of the tobacco giant controlled by him, TEDIS Ukraine, Taras Korniyachenko, received a suspicion. He allegedly evaded paying taxes of over 270 million UAH, although the company rejects all these accusations.
