90 millionaires among MPs received rent compensation, 65 of them are “Servants of the People”

90 millionaires among MPs received rent compensation for last year, 65 of them are from Servant of the People, the Committee of Voters of Ukraine reported.

According to activists' data, on average 20 thousand hryvnias were allocated per person monthly.

Among those who received compensation were a number of multi-millionaire deputies. For example, parliamentary compensation was received by People’s Deputy Ostap Shypaylo (the entrepreneur declared 22 million UAH, No. 120 on Servant of the People’s electoral list). Also renting housing at public expense was People’s Deputy Oleksandr Trukhin, who became a figure in a scandal over involvement in a car accident (he declared 20 million UAH).

Also receiving budget compensation were members of the single-party majority Stepan Cherniavskyi, Pavlo Pavlysh, Dmytro Solomchuk, Konstantyn Kasai, Yevhen Pyvovarov, Ihor Nehulevskyi, Artem Kunaiev, Oleksandr Saliichuk, Ihor Frys, Maksym Tkachenko, who declared 8–11 million UAH in financial assets.

On the list of the richest deputies who used public funds: unaffiliated Oleg Voronko (declared 129 million UAH), Yevhen Yakovenko (54 million UAH) and Musa Mahomedov (39 million UAH).

“70% of deputies renting housing at taxpayers’ expense have sufficient financial means to rent housing on their own. The size of a deputy’s salary is enough to cover the cost of renting an apartment in Kyiv. However, despite having the means, deputies continue to receive budget compensation, perceived as a kind of parliamentary bonus,” explained KIU head Oleksii Koshel.
