65 MPs-millionaires from among the “Servants” rented housing last year using budget funds

During last year 90 members of parliament who are millionaires used the right to receive funds to compensate the cost of renting housing or renting a hotel room. Of them — 65 members of the “Servant of the People” faction…

This is stated in a report by the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, quoted by “DS.”

For example, the budget compensation was received by MP Ostap Shypaylo (the entrepreneur declared 22 million UAH, No. 120 on the “Servant of the People” electoral list).

MP Oleksandr Trukhin, who became involved in a scandal regarding his participation in a car accident (declared 20 million UAH), also rented housing using budget funds.

In addition, members of the single-party majority who received budget compensation included Stepan Chernyavskyi, Pavlo Pavlysh, Dmytro Solomchuk, Konstantyn Kasai, Yevhen Pivovarov, Ihor Nehulevskyi, Artem Kunaiev, Oleksandr Saliichuk, Ihor Frys, and Maksym Tkachenko, who declared 8–11 million UAH in cash assets.

Among the richest deputies who used budget funds were independents Oleg Voronko (declared 129 million UAH), Yevhen Yakovenko (54 million UAH) and Musa Mahomedov (39 million UAH).

Also in the TOP 10 richest renters: independent Serhii Mahera (25 million UAH), member of the For the Future group Anatolii Urbanskyi (19 million UAH), OPZZh representative Oleksandr Ponomarov (19 million UAH) and member of the Batkivshchyna faction Oleg Meidych (14 million UAH).

“70% of deputies who rent housing with taxpayers’ money have sufficient financial means to rent housing on their own.

The size of a deputy’s salary allows covering the cost of renting an apartment in Kyiv.

However, despite having the means, deputies continue to receive compensation from the perceived budget, as a kind of parliamentary bonus,” noted KIU chairman Oleksii Koshel.

According to part 1 of article 35 of the Law “On the Status of a People’s Deputy of Ukraine,” funds are provided in the expenses for ensuring the activities of the Verkhovna Rada for renting housing or renting a hotel room.

Based on his application and a copy of the document containing information about his place of residence, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine issues a deputy monthly funds in the amount established by the parliament’s budget estimate.

The right to receive such funds is granted to deputies who are not provided with housing in Kyiv, and whose place of residence, according to their registration, is located at a distance of more than 30 km from the borders of Kyiv.
