Turning Over Nuclear Weapons in Exchange for NATO. Seven-Term People's Deputy Described the Historic Opportunity Ukraine Missed

Member of Parliament of seven convocations Serhiy Sobolev recalled historical opportunities that Ukraine did not take advantage of in the past, notably when it renounced its nuclear arsenal. This is reported by Hlavkom.

Sobolev emphasized the importance of correcting historical mistakes and maintaining the course toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Some people claim that MPs surrendered nuclear weapons. I am not an advocate of returning nuclear weapons, but I am an advocate of recognizing that this really was the first option where we could actually secure accession to NATO. This is what we could have obtained for NATO membership.”

The parliamentarian stressed that NATO remains the strongest security bloc, and the combination of Western technology with the experience of Ukrainian soldiers is a guarantee of defending the sovereignty of Europe as a whole. He also urged preserving internal unity of society, noting that the enemy seeks to split the country from within, while unity is the only guarantee of Ukraine’s invincibility.

As is known, Western instructors have excluded drone and electronic warfare management training from the Ukrainian servicemen preparation programs in Poland.

This decision is explained by the fact that the real combat experience of Ukrainian fighters in these areas significantly exceeds the level of training of NATO country specialists. The matter concerns the multinational training mission Operation Legio led by Norway, deployed at Camp Jomsborg in the southeastern part of Poland.

Earlier it was reported that NATO developed a concept of actions in the event of a possible Russian invasion of the Baltic states. It foresees three main strategies aimed at stopping the advance of Russian troops and significantly weakening Russia’s ability to continue fighting.

We are talking about a possible scenario of a Russian attack on Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania. According to Bild, the respective measures are part of the “NATO Land Combat Concepts,” largely developed by American Major Andrew PINGRY.

We note that Russia has deployed secret bases capable of launching long-range drones deep into the territory of NATO countries. Journalists, relying on documents and satellite images, have identified at least 10 Russian bases where new launch sites have been arranged. Some of these bases are already used to launch strikes on Ukraine.
