Surrender of nuclear weapons in exchange for NATO. A seven-term deputy spoke about the historical opportunity Ukraine missed – Suspicions

Serhiy Sobolev believes that NATO remains the strongest security bloc.

Member of Parliament of seven convocations Serhiy Sobolev recalled historical opportunities that Ukraine did not use in the past, notably when it refused the nuclear arsenal. This is written about by Glavkom.

Sobolev stressed the importance of correcting historical mistakes and maintaining the euro-Atlantic integration course:

“Some claim that deputies surrendered nuclear weapons. I am not in favor of returning nuclear weapons, but I am in favor of the fact that this was indeed the first option when we could really push for NATO membership. This is what we could have achieved for NATO admission.”

The parliamentarian emphasized that NATO remains the strongest security bloc, and the combination of Western technologies with the experience of Ukrainian soldiers is a guarantee of protecting the sovereignty of all of Europe. In addition, he called for maintaining internal societal unity, noting that the enemy is trying to split the country from within, whereas unity is the only guarantee of Ukraine’s invincibility.

As is known, Western instructors excluded training in drone management and electronic warfare from the Ukrainian military training programs in Poland.

This decision is explained by the fact that the real combat experience of Ukrainian fighters in these areas significantly exceeds the level of training of NATO country specialists. The multi-national training mission Operation Legio under Norwegian leadership, deployed at Camp Jomsborg in the southeastern part of Poland, is involved.

Earlier it was reported that NATO developed a concept of actions in case of a possible Russian invasion of Baltic states. It provides for three main strategies to stop the Russian troops’ advance and significantly weaken Russia’s ability to continue fighting.

We are talking about a possible scenario of a Russian attack on Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania. According to Bild, the relevant measures are part of the NATO Land Combat Doctrine concept, largely developed by American Major Andrew PINGRI.

Recall that Russia has deployed secret bases capable of launching long-range drones deep into NATO territory. Journalists, relying on documents and satellite images, found at least 10 Russian bases where new launch pads were set up. Some of these bases are already being used to strike Ukraine.
