Prosecutor of the Shevchenkivskyi Prosecutor's Office Serhiy Cherednichenko to be Tried for Driving Under the Influence

In Kyiv 26, the Dnipro district court is set to consider an administrative case against Sergei Cherednichenko, a prosecutor of the Shevchenkivskyi district prosecutor's office, who was stopped by patrol officers late at night on the Paton Bridge while driving a Volkswagen Touareg and was issued a protocol on signs of driving under the influence.

According to available information, the incident occurred 7 August around 00:20. At the time of the stop, a curfew was in effect in Kyiv. Behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Touareg with license plate AA7787SN was Cherednichenko, who, according to the incident report, produced a service identification card to the patrol officers.

The materials are prepared under Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, which concerns driving vehicles by persons who are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances that reduce attention and reaction speed, or under the influence of medications that impair attention and reaction.

Case No. 755/13031/26 scheduled for consideration on 26 August at 11:50. The hearing is to take place in the Dnipro district court of Kyiv, and the case will be presided over by judge Ihor Yemelyanyan.

During the materials’ processing, according to the detective bureau Absolution Leaks, the officers detected signs of alcohol intoxication in the driver. The report also stated that the prosecutor expressed intention to resolve the matter in court.

The court will provide the final legal assessment of the circumstances. The mere drafting of an administrative protocol does not, in itself, establish the person’s guilt. The court must examine the patrols’ materials, the participants’ explanations, and other evidence, after which it will decide whether there is a violation of the administrative offense.

Separately in incident reports, questions were raised about the vehicle Cherednichenko drove. In particular, there was a version that the Volkswagen Touareg might not be listed in the official’s declaration. At the same time, this information requires separate verification against official declaration data and registries, since the available reports are not conclusive proof of declaration rule violations.

Sergei Cherednichenko previously held the position of first deputy head of the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district prosecutor’s office. He currently works in the Shevchenkivskyi district prosecutor’s office. The report on the administrative case may become a basis for a separate personnel evaluation of the prosecutor’s actions after the court establishes all the circumstances of the incident.

Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses provides for responsibility for driving a vehicle under the influence, as well as for a range of related actions, including refusal to undergo examination in the manner prescribed by law. The sanctions and legal consequences in a specific case depend on the qualification of the actions and the facts established by the court.
