"Pulled for 50 meters": new details revealed about the crash involving MP Hevko

A relative of the man killed in a traffic accident in Lviv region, in which Member of Parliament from the Servant of the People faction Volodymyr Hevko was involved, shared details of the crash. Her comment was published by the TSN portal.

The woman told media representatives that some circumstances of the tragedy are still unknown to the deceased’s relatives, but she managed to find out some details.

"As far as I understand, during the crash the deputy pulled him about 50 meters. One shoe was on one side, the body on the pedestrian (crosswalk – ed.). The sneakers were on the right, the body on the left, at a large distance," the relative of the victim said.

She suggested that Hevko’s car may have been moving at high speed, which is indicated by the damage to the vehicle.

"The car was smashed, the radiator leaked," the journalist’s interlocutor states.

The relative of the deceased recalled that the victim’s body lay at the scene for more than five hours, until one o’clock in the morning. She also emphasized that Volodymyr Hevko expressed his condolences.

"We will wait to see what information is released officially," the woman said.

Crash involving MP Hevko: what is known about it

The Member of Parliament from Servant of the People was involved in a traffic accident in Lviv region that resulted in a man’s death. The MP reported this on his Facebook page on 19 March.

"I still can’t come to terms with it. Unfortunately, tragedies on the road are not uncommon. But we always want to believe that it will never happen to us," Hevko wrote.

The politician claims he passed all tests for alcohol and drugs and is ready to cooperate with investigators.

Hevko also expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and promised to do everything possible to ensure the victim’s relatives receive the necessary support and assistance.

The next day the State Bureau of Investigation clarified that the crash occurred on the Ternopil–Lviv–Rava-Ruska highway. According to investigators, Hevko was driving sober, and the accident occurred "outside a regulated pedestrian crossing."

The agency also said that the question of opening criminal proceedings under part 2 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of transport by persons which caused the death of the victim) is currently being considered.
