“Ukrzaliznytsia” ordered railcars from Kriukiv Car Building Plant for 1,09 billion hryvnias

JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” 20 August, following the results of a tender, ordered from PJSC “Kriukiv Car Building Plant” railcars for 1,09 billion UAH.

These are cars of new models that “Ukrzaliznytsia” first ordered from KVBZ a year ago, in July 2025. At that time their dollar prices were 5–9% lower, namely $2,26 million, $2,28 million and $2,35 million respectively. The cars have a wider T loading gauge, a carbody shell made of corrosion-resistant metals, disc brakes, and air conditioning. As the press center of “Ukrzaliznytsia” reported, thanks to bodies made of stainless steel the service life of these cars is 50 years, which is 20 years longer than for standard Ukrzaliznytsia cars. They will have sleeping berths 2,2 m long, electric heating, sliding doors, and pneumatic suspension.

Models 61–7157 with 40 seats and 61–7158 with 44 seats have only one vestibule. Both toilets in them are located at one end: a large one with a shower unit and a small one with a changing table and a hanging child seat. The inclusive model 61–7159 with 30 seats has two vestibules. It has two toilets adapted for a passenger in a wheelchair at opposite ends, specifically providing sufficient space, fold-down grab rails, a strap, a conductor call button, a shower unit, and a hygienic shower.

Each compartment will have a lighting control panel with an information display showing toilet occupancy, a conductor call button and a security alarm button, a temperature control panel, 220 V sockets with USB and Type-C ports, and wireless charging. In the large corridors there will be an electronic information display, two toilet occupancy indicators, panels with indicators and buttons to cancel a conductor call, three 220 V outlets, a video camera, information click-systems and a catering screen. Video cameras are also provided in the small corridors and vestibules.

The contract provides an advance payment of 64,5% and payment of the remaining 35,5% within a month after delivery.

As before, the tender was open, but only one Ukrainian manufacturer attended — Kriukiv Car Building Plant. It won the contract at a price equal to the expected amount.

The main shareholders of KVBZ are the company’s director Volodymyr Prykhodko and his wife Natalia Prykhodko. According to the analytical system Youcontrol, they each control 34% of the plant’s shares, i.e., 68% together. A further 25% of shares belongs to the state of Ukraine represented by the State Property Fund. Owners of the remaining 7% of shares are not visible, since only owners of share packages larger than five percent are subject to disclosure.

Previously 25% of KVBZ belonged to Russian national Stanislav Gamzalov, chairman of the board of directors of the railcar manufacturer Zavod Metalokonstruktsiy (city of Engels, Saratov region, Russian Federation). In 2022 the Ukrainian court seized the Russian national’s shares.
