New Occupier Bases in Crimea: Where Russia Hides Its Sea Drones

The Russian armed forces are actively deploying infrastructure for sea drones on the Crimean shore of Lake Donuzlav. New satellite images near Novoazerne recorded the appearance of specialized boathouses. Experts suggest that Russian uncrewed boats may be tested there before being deployed.

Russia is expanding a sea drone base in Crimea

Analysis of satellite imagery of temporarily occupied Crimea revealed new Russian military activity. The Russians are setting up bases for maritime unmanned systems. Work has been deployed on the shore of Lake Donuzlav, near the settlement of Novoazerne, where specialized buildings have appeared to service robotic high-speed uncrewed boats.

Researchers note that the discovered facilities are intended directly for storage and for possible repair of Russian uncrewed boats.

“On the shore of Lake Donuzlav in temporarily occupied Crimea, near the settlement of Novoazerne, the Russians built boathouses, likely intended for storing UACs,” the researchers’ report says.

Despite active construction of the relevant infrastructure, the Russian army has not yet used its surface drones to carry out real combat operations. However, experts are convinced that the appearance of such shelters is not accidental.

It is likely that the occupiers are currently focused on testing these robotic systems, and are simultaneously creating the necessary material base for their future mass deployment in the war.

Earlier Novyny.LIVE reported that Ukrainian forces successfully struck enemy military targets on the night of 22 August and the night of 23 August. The strikes hit targets in several parts of occupied Crimea at once, including a base where the Russians kept uncrewed boats.

Aviation expert Valerii Romanenko noted that in one day the invaders are capable of launching more than a hundred jet drones at our cities, but mobile units and air defense systems have learned to successfully destroy this threat.

Member of Parliament Maryan Zablotskyi reported that a proven and affordable solution has been found against the fast jet “Shaheds.” American partners have already paid for production of the first prototypes, and if the idea works, the new system will begin hunting enemy drones within a couple of weeks.
