MPs propose posthumously awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine to Farion’s son-in-law

The Verkhovna Rada supported a parliamentary inquiry to President Volodymyr Zelensky concerning posthumous conferral of the title Hero of Ukraine to senior soldier Vasyl Osoba — the son-in-law of linguist and public figure Iryna Faryon. The corresponding decision was voted for by 3 in September 245, according to Glavkom.

The inquiry to the president was submitted by lawmakers Oksana Savchuk and Rostyslav Tistik. It states the posthumous conferral of the Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Gold Star Order to Vasyl Osoba.

Support for the parliamentary inquiry does not mean automatic conferment of the state award. The final decision on the Hero of Ukraine title is made by the president.

It should be noted that Vasyl Osoba was the husband of Sofiya Semchyshyn, daughter of Iryna Faryon. The serviceman served in the 4-the-tank battalion “Strength of Freedom” of the National Guard of Ukraine “Rubezh.” He was a mortar operator and held the rank of senior soldier. 6 in October 2024 it became known that 35-year-old Osoba died in combat with Russian troops on the Siversky direction. He left behind a wife and two children — daughter Eva and son Dmytro.

Now the parliamentary appeal must be sent to the head of state for consideration. In case of a positive decision, Vasyl Osoba will be posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine and the Gold Star order.

As is known, 19 in July 2024, the Member of Parliament of the VII convocation and linguist Iryna Faryon passed away in a hospital after an attempted attack. The attack occurred on Masaryk Street in Lviv.

As a reminder, prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have completed pretrial investigation in the Faryon case and forwarded the indictment to court concerning 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zinchenko. He faces life imprisonment.

Incidentally, 24 in June 2026, a further hearing took place in Lviv’s Shevchenkivskyi District Court in the murder case of Iryna Faryon. The defendant in the linguist’s murder, two months after the start of the debates, stated that he is not currently prepared to testify.
