Students at an event during an air alarm: Kyiv University accused on social media

Information is spreading online about an event for students of the University of Intellectual Property and Law in Kyiv held during an air-raid siren. The authors of the posts claim that students were gathered for an event that was also streamed live.

Relevant messages appeared in local Telegram channels.

On the Kyiv University of Intellectual Property and Law's official Instagram page there really is an announcement for this event. The post states that the university president, academician Serhiy Kivalov, rector Vasyl Felix, and singer Natalia Mogilevska invited students to a ceremonial initiation into students-2026. The event was planned for 8 September, on 11:00, and among the declared activities was a performance by Natalia Mogilevska.

At the same time, the announcement itself does not specify whether the event was planned to take place in a shelter or how organizers were supposed to act in case of an air-raid.

The situation draws additional attention amid the massive Russian missile-drone attack on Kyiv 8 September.

In the capital, reports spoke of those killed and injured as a result of the Russian strike. City authorities urged residents to stay in shelters and other safe places until the air alarm ends.

Meanwhile, as of 6 September, Kyiv operates a differentiated danger notification system with “yellow” and “red” levels. The mere fact of an air-raid siren does not allow establishing the circumstances of a specific event — for that you need to know the exact time, danger level, location of students, and the availability of an equipped shelter.

Also, as of 8 September in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, there was a report of a fire on the premises of a educational institution.
