In Kyiv's capital university, freshman initiation was held during an air raid alert – police opened a case

Police have opened a criminal proceeding into an event held with students on the territory of one Kyiv university during an air raid alert.

According to Ukrinform, this was announced by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv.

Information that an event with students was being held on the university campus in the Darnytskyi district of the capital during an air raid alert arrived to law enforcement around 11:10 on Tuesday.

A investigative-operational group from the district police department arrived at the scene.

Police preliminary established that an initiation ceremony for first-year students into becoming students was conducted on an open territory of the educational institution. After the air alert was announced, the event was not stopped, and students were not directed to shelter.

Police did not name exactly which higher education institution hosted the event, but from published photos it is seen that it was the University of Intellectual Property and Law, whose president is former member of Parliament from the Party of Regions, Serhiy Kivalov.

As a result of the incident, investigators entered information in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under part 1 of article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – neglect of duty. The circumstances are being established.

As Ukrinform reported, in Kyiv, due to the worsening security situation, all entertainment and physical culture and sports events on open grounds and in buildings without shelters will be temporarily prohibited.
