The Central Election Commission registered Olena Slobodyan as a Member of Parliament: what is known about her

The Central Election Commission registered Olena Slobodyan as a People's Deputy of Ukraine. The commission adopted the relevant decision after reviewing the candidate's application and the documents she provided.

Olena Slobodyan won a mandate based on the results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections held on 21 July 2019. She was elected in the nationwide multi-member constituency from the Servant of the People party. In the party list, Slobodyan held the 166-th position. Slobodyan was born on 15 January 1987 in Kyiv. In 2010 she graduated from Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law, where she later defended a candidate’s dissertation on patent-law protection of inventions in the field of biotechnology. Her academic advisor was Ruslan Stefanchuk, who later became her direct superior. Before working in the Verkhovna Rada, Slobodyan was engaged in legal and academic work, and worked at the Higher School of Advocacy and the National Intellectual Property Office. Since 2021 she has headed the Secretariat of the Parliament’s chair. In 2026 Slobodyan also became the center of a scandal over her candidate’s dissertation. She was accused of plagiarism: according to activists, unreferenced borrowings were found on 147 of 185 pages of the work, including in materials from Russian dissertations.
