Murder of Parubiy: defendant’s detention extended

At the Frankivsk District Court in Lviv on 9 September, Mikhailo Stselnikov, who is accused of murdering Andriy Parubiy, had his preventive measure extended. This was reported by Hlavcom citing Suspilne.

A panel of judges ruled to extend Stselnikov’s detention without the right to bail for 60 days, until 7 November.

Prosecutor Taras Kovalchuk asked Stselnikov to explain when, why, and for what purpose he decided to kill Andriy Parubiy.

“Why — I have already said the reasons. You know that my son died, you know my attitude toward the authorities, not toward people — just my attitude toward the authorities. That is the main reason. When? A long time ago. I’ve already been sitting for a year, and this probably happened years 2-2,5 ago. Why? To avenge my son. That’s it,” the defendant said.

Stselnikov went on to state that he acted alone, and that he received instructions via a Telegram channel. He does not know who that person is.

As is known, Andriy Parubiy was killed on 30 August 2025 in Lviv near the apartment building where he lived. A man disguised as a courier approached the politician and fired eight shots from a pistol from a few meters away. Andriy Parubiy died at the scene. The shooter fled the crime scene and attempted to hide, but on the night of 1 September he was detained in Khmelnytskyi region.

The investigation established that the 53-year-old Lviv resident acted as an agent of the Russian special services. Since 2024 he has been passing information to the enemy about Ukrainian Armed Forces units in Lviv, and later proposed Andriy Parubiy as a target for assassination.
