Umansk welcomed a record 50 number of pilgrims for Rosh Hashanah

This year, Jews are celebrating 5787 year.

In Uman, 11 September at 19:00 the celebration of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, began. This year a record number of pilgrims visited the city — 50 thousand. This year’s pilgrim turnout is the highest in recent years. According to the United Jewish Community of Ukraine, no extraordinary incidents were recorded at pilgrim sites.

Also, more than three thousand women and children arrived in Uman.

The celebration will last three days, until the evening of 13 September. This year Jews are celebrating 5787 year.

11 September believers will recite the prayer of atonement — Selichot, perform the ritual release from unfulfilled vows, and make charitable donations. Believers will treat themselves to honey and circular challah on this day to ensure a sweet year, and they will eat pomegranates and fish heads “to be the head, not the tail.”

12 September there will be morning prayers and Torah reading, followed by a festive meal. 13 September — they will blow the shofar, in the evening there will be Tashlich — a rite by a body of water where sins are symbolically cast away. The celebration ends after the evening prayer.

At the site of the celebration in Uman, police, rescuers from the State Emergency Service, canine units and bomb technicians, National Guard service members, and Israeli police are patrolling.

In the pilgrimage zone, medical teams from Uman Emergency Clinic and Ahdut Hezalah are stationed, ready to provide urgent assistance.
