You Need to Prepare for This: Why Russia Began Striking Checkpoints on the Ukrainian Border

In the night of 9 September, Russian drones attacked the Starokozache border crossing at the border of Ukraine and Moldova in the Odesa region. The strikes were mainly on the Moldovan side. Therefore the government of the country raised certain questions in the information space directed at Russia.

In an interview 24 with the channel, retired colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, flight instructor, military expert Roman Svitan noted that the Russians responded to Moldova's reaction.

Russia may be preparing new strikes on border check-points: Poland should be prepared.

The Russians replied that they hit the Moldovan border crossing because allegedly weapons were coming to Ukraine through it. Notably, Svitan emphasized, that through this crossing no weapons ever went, as it is not intended for that.

The point is that when explosive substances are transported, special crossings are needed. It is not just along the lane where civilians walk. No, completely different checkpoints. And this Moldovan crossing was never used and will not be involved due to the impossibility of organizing technical support for explosive substances,

– Svitan explained.

However, the Russians still struck it. The military expert suggested that they did this to observe Moldova's reaction and to weaponize a conditional “vaccination” for other countries with such strikes.

This is to observe the reaction of the NATO European community, to give it a “vaccination” and to play out the justification for these attacks in the information stream. In the near future I do not rule out the possibility of strikes on Polish crossings with Ukraine, where there are indeed those connected with military equipment. One should expect,

– predicts Svitan.

He continued that not only to wait for such attacks by Russia, but to prepare adequately for them – by guarding crossings on both sides, including Ukrainian. But Ukraine, as the retired colonel noted, cannot operate in Poland's airspace, so here the Polish air defense will be very important.

In addition to crossings with Ukraine, the Poles should strengthen at least their borders with Russia. Recently it has become clear that the Russians are escalating incursions into Europe,

– Svitan pointed out.

According to him, there were direct strikes and preparation for them. Svitan stressed that Germany had previously halted the flow of explosive substances for the possibility of a blast. Germans reacted quickly. There, from his words, starting with cybersecurity, which works in full, law enforcement structures are vigilant, tracking any possibility of harming the German economy directly by Russians.

This counteraction exists. It triggers a reverse reaction. Ukraine receives more weapons. Believe me, as soon as some number of missiles appears on that wing, they will already be with us. Germans do not hold grudges, they will retaliate and forget. And retaliation may be transferred to the Ukrainian army. Germans are doing this now. We are interested in countering the Russians using German means of destruction only with our own hands,
