In Kyiv, Dogs of Potentially Dangerous Breeds Will Be Tested for Manageability

In Kyiv, owners of potentially dangerous dog breeds were reminded of the need to undergo testing under the 'Dog as a Companion' program.

This was announced by the Kyiv City Veterinary Medicine Hospital Municipal Enterprise.

During the test, specialists assess the basic skills of the dog and its owner. In particular, they evaluate how well the animal adapts to urban environments, whether it behaves safely toward its owner, people, and other animals, and whether the owner can correctly control it.

The veterinary hospital notes that these skills are especially important during martial law. Explosions, sirens, crowds of people, and other stress factors can cause fear or panic in an animal. A well-controlled dog is more likely to stay near its owner and follow commands even in difficult situations.

Special attention is given to dogs' behavior in shelters. During air alerts, people and animals may spend extended time together in a confined space, so the owner must continuously monitor the animal and prevent conflicts. The State Food and Consumer Service also emphasizes that dogs in shelters must be kept on a leash.

The testing should assess not only the animal's skills but also the owner's willingness to responsibly maintain it. This refers to knowledge of dog care rules and the ability to safely control the animal in urban conditions.

The Kyiv City Veterinary Medicine Hospital Municipal Enterprise emphasizes that responsible upbringing and control of a dog are important components of the safety of the animal itself, its owner, other people, and other animals.

Testing under the 'Dog as a Companion' program is governed by the rules for keeping domestic dogs and cats in Kyiv and the relevant regulation approved by Kyiv City Council resolutions from 25 October 2007 year.
