Fragments of Several Explosive-Laden Drones Found in Romania in One Day

In Romania on 11 September, fragments of unmanned aerial vehicles were found within a few hours in several locations — in the Constanța area, in Tulcea county bordering Ukraine, and in the Black Sea. In at least one case a warhead was found in a fragment and safely neutralized by sappers. The exact type and affiliation of the drones have not been officially reported.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported the discovered fragments, Digi24 writes. According to the ministry, the first inspection was carried out at about 13:30 in the Kislă-Vedanei area of Tulcea county. There, a bomb disposal team examined two drone fragments found on the beach. No explosives were found in them.

The next intervention took place at about 15:18 in the Perițasca area of the same county. Border police had earlier at 9:30 recorded two drone fragments on the beach. An explosive charge was found in one of them, which a pyrotechnic team from the Romanian Intelligence Service safely neutralized. The second fragment was taken by the coast guard.

At about 16:00 a commercial vessel reported possible drone debris in the Black Sea. Both objects were recovered by a coast guard patrol boat. No explosive hazard was found in them.

The last intervention that day occurred at nearly 18:00 in the coastal area Edigeol-Periboyna in Constanța county. While inspecting a suspicious object reported by the coast guard, Ministry of Defense specialists spotted fragments of four drones from a helicopter. Among them was an interceptor drone with explosives on board. All discovered items were safely neutralized.

Romania tightens control of border territories

The series of finds in one day demonstrates how frequent incidents involving drone debris have become along Romania’s Black Sea coast and in counties bordering Ukraine. Each response involves multiple agencies — the Ministry of Defense, border police, the coast guard, and pyrotechnic teams of the Romanian Intelligence Service.

The presence of warheads in some of the fragments is forcing Romanian security services to strengthen inspections of the coastal strip and coordination between agencies, since such objects pose a direct threat to local residents and first responders who are the first to find suspicious items on beaches.

Earlier, Informator reported that a Russian citizen was detained in Romania who, since February 2026, had been photographing NATO military sites, communications centers, and critical infrastructure at the direction of a handler from Russia. We also wrote that Romania denied rumors about its troops allegedly participating in combat operations in Ukraine, explaining that the matter concerns only the involvement of a small group of officers in the coordination structure of the “coalition of the willing” on the territories of France and Britain.
