They want to lift curfew in the rear: lawmakers named the reason

In the Verkhovna Rada, it was proposed to abandon the curfew in regions where hostilities are not taking place. People's Deputy Dmytro Razumkov believes that nightly restrictions no longer fulfill their initial function and may create conditions for abuse.

This was stated by Dmytro Razumkov in an interview on YouTube.

According to the deputy, the curfew was introduced primarily due to the threat of activity by sabotage-reconnaissance groups at night. Now, Razumkov argues, such an argument no longer explains the necessity of completely restricting people's movement in rear cities at night.

He also drew attention to the regime with 01:00 to 05:00. In the politician's view, the de facto four-hour shutdown of a city creates inconvenience for citizens and business, while the security effect of such restrictions requires reevaluation.

Razumkov proposes to keep the curfew primarily where the front-line situation and the immediate military threat require it. In rear regions, according to him, such a regime could be abandoned.

Another argument the deputy named was the possibility of abuses during nighttime checks. He stated that the mere fact of a person being on the street during curfew does not automatically mean punishment, but law enforcement officers may stop them and check documents.

Separately Razumkov drew attention to checkpoints. According to him, at night a car may be denied further movement, and a situation where the decision essentially depends on the person on the spot potentially creates a ground for corrupt abuses.

In Kyiv and the region, the curfew currently operates from 01:00 to 05:00. For now, it is only a proposal by a deputy — a decision to completely lift night restrictions in rear regions has not been adopted.
