Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that on the eve of winter Ukraine urgently needs interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This is reported by «Glavkom» with reference to Deutsche Welle.

In an interview given by the head of state 11 in September at the Canadian military base North Bay, Zelensky said that Russia produces about 140 ballistic missiles per month. According to the president, in accordance with NATO standards, two interceptor missiles are required to guarantee destruction of one ballistic missile. Therefore, Ukraine would need about 280 such missiles monthly.

At the same time, Zelensky acknowledged that obtaining such a quantity is currently unrealistic. Even supplying Ukraine with a hundred interceptor missiles per month he called a “huge challenge.” “I want to have 100–120 Patriot missiles for these difficult months, especially the cold months,” the president said.

Zelensky noted that Ukraine can receive missiles both from U.S. stocks and directly from American manufacturers. In addition, Kyiv is discussing the possibility of interceptor supply from Middle Eastern countries. The details of these negotiations the president did not disclose.

On the eve, the European Commission approved a new aid package to Ukraine of €6,1 billion, which provides funding for air defense, drones, and missiles. In particular, the decision will allow Ukraine to purchase American interceptor missiles PAC-3 for Patriot systems.
