Bila Tserkva – 994, Vyshhorod – 1080: Kyiv region communities celebrate city days

Several communities in the Kyiv region are celebrating their city days these days, but the war has altered traditional festivities. Bila Tserkva turns 994 years old, Vyshhorod – 1080, while the Bucha community decided to postpone events for Bucha Day and the village of Vorzel’s Day because of the security situation.

KV learned this from a statement by the Bila Tserkva community, a post by Vyshhorod City Council head Oleksiy Momot, and a statement by Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk.

“On 12 September Bila Tserkva celebrates its 994-th anniversary. This year City Day is once again observed under wartime conditions and, unfortunately, increased air attacks. So instead of the usual celebrations that day there is a single ceremonial event that united Bila Tserkva residents,” the statement says.

In Bila Tserkva they emphasized that this year’s City Day is taking place without the usual mass celebrations.

Head of the Bila Tserkva district administration Iryna Starenka also congratulated Bila Tserkva residents on City Day. According to her, during Ukraine’s struggle for freedom, Bila Tserkva continues to live, work, and develop despite the challenges of wartime.

These days Vyshhorod is also celebrating its 1080-th anniversary. In Mayor Oleksiy Momot’s post it says that Vyshhorod is more than 1080 years of history, because the city is created every day by its residents: servicemembers, volunteers, medical workers, educators, utility workers, families, and everyone who continues to work and keep the community going in difficult times.

“Today we celebrate its 1080-th anniversary with a special feeling. Alongside joy is the memory of those taken by the war. Gratitude to those who defend our country. And faith that the most important pages of our city’s history are still ahead,” the post says.

At the same time, in the Bucha community planned events for Vorzel’s Day and Bucha Day were postponed due to the security situation. According to Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk, both events are tentatively planned to be held in October if the situation stabilizes.

“Today, on the first Sunday of September, Vorzel traditionally was to celebrate Village Day. It is an important day for the whole community, but due to intense enemy attacks and the difficult security situation the planned events must be postponed. The same decision was made regarding Bucha Day,” Fedoruk said.
