A train derailed in France: police consider it an intentional act among possible causes

In Normandy, in the north of France, on the evening of 11, a passenger train traveling from Rouen to Caen with 180 passengers on board derailed. This is reported by Hlasno with reference to Le Figaro.

As a result of the incident, 44 people were injured. According to the local prosecutor, the main version under investigation is a deliberate act: a rail fragment was found on the track, which could have caused the accident. Authorities are currently determining the origin of this foreign object.

According to Transport Minister Olivier Tabarot, the life of a 18-year-old girl who sustained the most serious injuries and is in Rouen University Hospital is currently not in danger. Overall, medical aid was provided to 26 people in four regional facilities, most of whom have already been discharged.

As a reminder, in August in Great Britain a passenger train derailed near Lewes station in East Sussex. Three carriages toppled over. 11 people were injured; emergency services were on the scene.

Earlier it was reported that near Barcelona a suburban train derailed due to a collapse of a retaining wall onto the tracks.

As a result of the incident, at least one person died, and another 37 passengers were injured, five of whom are in critical condition. According to initial data from operator ADIF, the collapse was caused by prolonged rains in the region.

This tragedy occurred just two days after a catastrophic train collision in the south of the country, which claimed at least 42 lives. While rescuers in Catalonia were clearing the debris of the suburban train, 800 km away, a search operation for bodies of the victims in Sunday’s accident continued. Recall that then a train bound for Malaga derailed and crashed into an oncoming train, and due to the impact, the carriages toppled from a four-meter slope.
