In Ternopil, a 13-year-old boy died as a result of falling from an electric scooter

In Ternopil, on Brodovska Street, a 13-year-old boy died as a result of falling from an electric scooter. This is reported by Glavkom, citing the Main Department of the National Police in Ternopil Oblast.

A deadly road traffic accident occurred 15 September around 19:20.

“At the scene, investigators and operatives arrived. According to preliminary data, a 13-year-old boy, riding a Kukirin G2 scooter, was moving along the sidewalk toward Zbarazka Street, could not control it, and fell onto the sidewalk,” the report says.

The police noted that the boy sustained bodily injuries from the fall. Medics provided assistance, but on the way to the hospital he died.

The issue of entering this fact into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 291 (violation of current traffic rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being decided. Law enforcement officials are establishing all circumstances and causes of the tragedy.

Mayor of Ternopil Serhiy Nadol urged the patrol police and the National Police to strengthen control over the observance of rules. He reminded that the city has rules for using electric scooters. For children up to 10 years old, riding is allowed only with adults; from 10 to 16 years old – independently, only on sidewalks and pedestrian paths, but at a speed of up to 5 km/h. From 16 years old, movement on bike lanes and bike paths is allowed at speeds up to 20 km/h.

For reference, two bills have been registered in the Verkhovna Rada to regulate the use of electric scooters and other small electric transport in Ukraine. The bills are № 15284 “On the specifics of using small electric transport in Ukraine” and the related bill № 15283 on administrative liability for violations of the rules for using such transport.

By the way, over the last year and a half, Ukrainian courts have considered at least 132 cases related to road traffic incidents involving electric scooters.
