Hladyshenko Promises to Appeal NBU Decision to Terminate His Powers on Sense Bank Supervisory Board

Former chairman of the Sense Bank supervisory board Mykola Hladyschenko plans to appeal the National Bank of Ukraine's (NBU) decision to terminate his powers on the bank's supervisory board.

“I reserve the right to appeal this decision and will probably do so in the near future,” Hladyschenko said in an interview with Unian.

According to him, the NBU found him to be non-compliant with independence requirements, after which his powers were terminated.

Hladyschenko also said he does not agree with the statements about the allegedly rapid and formal formation of Sense Bank's supervisory board. In particular, he denied information that the board's composition was formed “in 10 minutes.”

“It was not appointed in 10 minutes,” he stressed.

According to Hladyschenko, the process of forming the supervisory board began at the end of 2024 year and involved engaging an international recruiter, several interview stages, and the formation of a short list of candidates. After that, the candidacies were reviewed and approved in accordance with the established procedure, including coordination with the National Bank.

He noted that the entire process lasted several months.

Hladyschenko also said that during the consideration of whether he met independence requirements, he did not have the opportunity to provide his explanations at the meeting of the relevant NBU committee.

“I was not invited to the committee meeting to provide my explanations,” he said.

In his view, this could also serve as one of the arguments when challenging the regulator's decision.

As reported, Sense Bank has been state-owned since 2023 year after the bank's nationalization, which previously belonged to Russian shareholders.

Hladyschenko headed the Sense Bank supervisory board. The NBU made the decision to terminate his powers after assessing compliance with the independence requirements for a member of the supervisory board.
