Court Restored Uman Mayor to Duty

The Administrative Court suspended the decision of the congress of the party “For the Future” to recall the mayor of Uman, Iryna Pletnyova. She stated that she continues to fulfill the duties of the city’s head. This was reported by Glavcom, citing Pletnyova’s statement.

The mayor thanked the court for considering the case and said that there were violations, in her view, committed during the recall procedure.

In particular, Pletnyova claims that among the documents collected for her recall there were signatures of people who have nothing to do with the Uman community, as well as deceased individuals. Moreover, according to her, the signature sheets contained identical or similar handwriting.

Pletnyova noted that the court took these circumstances into account. At the same time, she called it a “strange situation” that the relevant issues were not reviewed by the head and members of the Territorial Election Commission.

“This issue for me is not about personal conflicts or political confrontation. There are facts – they must be checked. There is evidence – it must receive a legal assessment. We will continue to consistently defend our position strictly within the legal framework – in court, in the language of documents, facts and evidence,” said the mayor.

Earlier, Pletnyova spoke of a conflict with Anton Yatzenko, a deputy from Uman region. According to her, the politician “did not like that he lost control over Uman.”

As a reminder, 8 in September in Kyiv, the congress of the party “For the Future” took place, where a decision was made to recall Iryna Pletnyova from the post of mayor of Uman.

The procedure became the first in Ukraine to recall a city mayor by popular initiative. From the end of July to 17 August, the initiative group collected 6710 signatures for Pletnyova’s recall and handed them to the district election commission for consideration.

Following the verification, the TEC considered 6421 signatures. Another 289 signatures were not counted by the commission for various reasons. After that, the party congress of “For the Future” reviewed the issue of recall and supported the corresponding decision.

As a reminder, Glavkom conducted an interview with Member of Parliament Anton Yatsenko, who told his version of events around the recall of Iryna Pletnyova from the post of mayor of Uman. The politician rejected Pletnyova’s claims of his involvement in organizing her recall and stated that the decision was initiated by the Uman residents themselves.

Also, Yatsenko commented on the court challenge to the recall decision and suggested that if the party congress decision were suspended in Uman, a prolonged confrontation could ensue.
