Ukraine Will Not Have Its Own Anti-Ballistic Defense Any Time Soon, MP Says

Ukraine will have its own anti-ballistic defense not soon, so at least this winter we will still depend on our partners for intercepting ballistic missiles. This is what Roman Kostenko, a member of parliament from Holos, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on NationalSecurity, Defense and Intelligence, said in a comment to News.LIVE.

“Anti-ballistic defense is not the nearest perspective, it is a fact... The upcoming winter and perhaps some time after that we will still depend on our partners to intercept ballistic missiles,” he emphasized.

The parliamentarian noted that this is a difficult issue, and it is necessary to look for other means of influence on Russian ballistic carriers.

“We need to look for launch sites, and with the help of our means destroy them. Or prevent them from approaching the border closely enough. This is a decision in the absence of anti-ballistic missiles. And when there is a complex — both a portion of anti-ballistic missiles and means to destroy their launch positions — everything will become much better,” Kostenko stressed.

International countermeasures against Russia

As UNIAN reported, 10 in September President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of anti-ballistic sanctions that would complicate Russia’s production of ballistic missiles.

He noted that Canada is preparing such an anti-ballistic sanctions package for autumn, and expressed hope that the “package will be accelerated so that it could start already in October.”

Today, 17 in September, Kyiv and Kyiv region were included by the government in the list of territories at increased risk. Earlier on this list were only the territories of Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions.
