“I am not the accused”: Kolomoyskyi created his own order in court

During another court session, Ukrainian businessman Ihor Kolomoyskyi argued about how participants in the process should address him. He firmly rejected the word “accused.”

This is evidenced by a video recording from the courtroom.

During the session, there was a dialogue between the participants and the businessman regarding his procedural status.

“Please, do not call me accused, do not call me that. And I apologize. I am not accused, you may call me… I beg you, do not call me accused, you may call me…" Kolomoyskyi said.

In response, the court representative noted that, according to the Criminal Procedure Code, once an indictment has been filed with the court, a person attains the status of the accused. However, the businessman insisted on his view:

“Do not call me that, call me ‘citizen…’ And in my opinion, the court stage does not transition to that stage... Then do not call me that, call me… I heard you. Call me ‘citizen’... I heard you. Call me ‘citizen’... You interrupt everything... I don’t know why I am called ‘the accused’... I understand this is recorded, that you did not like it."
