Who is the new acting Prosecutor General Kovalskyi aligned with? Journalists name likely patrons – Pidozra

Who helped Kovalskyi’s career take off? The outlet’s sources named an influential businessman from Chernivtsi, one of the heads of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s campaign headquarters in the presidential election.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy 17 appointed Anton Kovalskyi as acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine in September. The influential Chernivtsi businessman Illia Pavliuk may have been involved in that personnel decision. This is reported in the Ukrainska Pravda piece “New acting Prosecutor General – Anton Kovalskyi. Dossier, connections and the mystery of the appointment.”

Sources at Ukrainska Pravda in the prosecutor’s office explained that the personnel decision may have involved the influential Chernivtsi businessman Illia Pavliuk. Earlier media named him as one of the heads of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s central campaign headquarters during the 2019 election. Pavliuk is also credited with leading a small group of members of parliament from the Servant of the People party.

In addition, in a conversation with Ukrainska Pravda one of the former Prosecutor Generals noted that Illia Pavliuk is a friend of Deputy Prosecutor General in the 2020–2025 years Ihor Mustets. Mustets is also from Chernivtsi. It was after his appearance in the Prosecutor General’s Office that prosecutor Kovalskyi’s career sharply rose – in September 2020 he took the post of deputy head of the Vinnytsia regional prosecutor’s office. Later he occupied the chair of regional prosecutor in Chernivtsi.

Ukrainska Pravda emphasizes that in 2020 Kovalskyi’s career peak was the department overseeing compliance with laws by fiscal service bodies, and then a leadership position in the Vinnytsia regional prosecutor’s office.

Recall that in 17 September President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy assigned the duties of Prosecutor General to Anton Kovalskyi. Over the years Kovalskyi has held various positions – from senior investigator and prosecutor to leadership roles in the Vinnytsia regional prosecutor’s office.
