MPs Learned About the Cancellation of the Verkhovna Rada Session from a Security Guard (Video)

The Verkhovna Rada session scheduled for 18 September was suddenly postponed. MPs learned about the cancellation of the session from a security guard.

This, as KV has learned, was reported by a number of MPs.

In particular, MPs from European Solidarity Volodymyr Viatrovych, Iryna Herashchenko, and Viktoriya Syumar, Voice MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, and Sofiya Fedyna said they were not warned about the cancellation of the session.

“The Rada is closed and will not be working today” – I learned this today before the session from a security guard. No explanations and no advance warnings. Is this how they will also announce that democracy has ended?” Viatrovych wrote.

MP Herashchenko noted that this has happened for the first time.

“Today is a plenary week, the government question hour, which we worked so hard to bring back after a two-year break. Today the new minister of education was supposed to report, and there are a ton of questions for them… MPs came to the Rada and, as they say, kissed the doors. A security guard informed us that the parliament is closed, the servants went to the Carpathian Forum, so someone simply decided to cancel the plenary session. Without notifying either the factions or faction leadership, and without a coordinating meeting,” Herashchenko complained.

“Parliament is closed on a day when the government was supposed to answer critical questions. Today I came to the Verkhovna Rada, where a plenary session and the government question hour were supposed to take place. Instead, the doors of the parliament are closed. Members of Parliament were not properly informed. That we would find out the session wouldn’t happen from the people who guard the building is a fact.

And this is happening precisely when parliament should be working especially intensively. We have a draft state budget for the 2027 year, which raises a huge number of questions. There are questions about defense funding, pay for the military, mobilization, and service terms. There are dozens of bills related to fulfilling Ukraine’s European obligations. There are risks of losing some international funding if Ukraine does not complete its part of the work. Worst of all, after this the Verkhovna Rada effectively goes into an almost three-week recess without plenary sessions,” Fedyna said.
