The Prosecutor General's Office Eliminated the Position of a Figure in the High-Profile "Carthage" Case

In the Office of the Prosecutor General, the position of deputy head of the Department of International Cooperation, which was held by Sergey Kropiva, a figure in the resonant case Carphagen, was eliminated.

The OPG made structural changes by decision of the leadership. In particular, by order of the acting Prosecutor General, the Department of International Cooperation of the OPG was reorganized. As part of the changes, the position of deputy head of the department, which was held by Sergey Kropiva, was eliminated. The Office of the Prosecutor General also noted that a disciplinary complaint against Kropiva is under consideration by the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors. It will decide on the imposition of a disciplinary sanction, among the possible consequences of which is Kropiva’s dismissal from the prosecutorial authorities. As a reminder, 4 in September, NABU and SAPO reported the exposure of a criminal organization in the Office of the General Prosecutor’s, which, according to investigators, “covered for” a network of fraudulent call centers. At that time, the deputy head of the international department of the OPG, Sergey Kropiva, was also detained. After this, 6 in September, the High Anti-Corruption Court sent Kropiva to custody with the possibility of posting a bail of 120 million hryvnias.

It should be noted that, 16 in September, the Appeals Chamber of the VAKS denied the defense’s appeal of Sergey Kropiva. He remains in custody with an alternative to post bail in the previously determined amount. RBC-Ukraine also reported that against the backdrop of the scandal, three more prosecutors lost their positions — First Deputy Prosecutor General Mariya Vdovichenko and two officials of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
