“Peace, Unity, and Prosperity”: Ukrainians Propose Changing the Words of the State Anthem

A petition has been registered on the website of the Office of the Prime Minister of Ukraine calling for an update to the text of the State Anthem of Ukraine. The initiative’s authors propose preserving the music by Mykhailo Verbytsky but changing the words to be more positive, capturing ideas of victory, peace, and prosperity for the state.

The petition states that the current anthem has great historical significance, but today society needs meanings that affirm belief in the future and give strength in difficult times.

“The revised State Anthem should inspire Ukrainians not only to stand firm but also to prevail, to live, to create, to rebuild the state, and to build its future with confidence,” the petition authors emphasize.

The petition has already been supported by more than 1500 people

The initiators propose to the government to use the right of legislative initiative and submit the corresponding bill for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada. In the proposed wording, instead of the traditional lines, they propose singing about peace, unity, reconstruction, and a happy life for future generations.

In particular, the proposed text begins with the words:

“Prosperity for Ukraine — glory and freedom,

We live together our bright fate.

And we live in peace with the whole white world,

And we build a country that flourishes in unity…”

The authors urge citizens to support the petition, noting that the words repeated daily by millions shape the common perception of the future of the entire country.
