FSB Female Hitman Targeted Russian Opposition Figure in Kyiv: SBU Thwarted Assassination Attempt

Counterintelligence officials of the Security Service of Ukraine said they prevented a contract killing in Kyiv. According to the SBU, the detained woman was supposed to eliminate a Russian opposition figure who currently heads one of Ukraine’s nationwide public organizations.

The security service states that a man has been fighting for Ukraine since 2022 year — first in the Kyiv region, and later on the eastern front.

According to investigators, the attack was planned to take place near one of the capital’s gyms, where the potential target works as a karate or kickboxing coach. The suspect was to shoot him from a combat pistol from an ambush.

SBU officers detained the woman near the sports complex. The agency says that at that moment she was reconnoitering the area and looking for a convenient position to attack.

According to case materials, the suspect is a resident of temporarily occupied Melitopol. As the SBU claims, Russian security services recruited her in exchange for a promise to resolve an issue related to the case of unlawful possession of drugs.

After recruitment, the woman underwent training at a local FSB unit. She was allegedly taught secrecy, terrain navigation, and shooting firearms.

Afterwards the suspect was transported to Ukraine via Belarus. Initially she arrived in Zhytomyr, and later — in Kyiv.

In the capital, the woman regularly changed hotels and, according to the SBU, used concealment measures. In particular, she left marks on the door of the room to understand whether someone entered in her absence.

Subsequently she allegedly received coordinates of a cache in a Kyiv woodland park area from her Russian supervisor. There, according to investigators, she retrieved the pistol and ammunition.

During a hotel room search, law enforcement officers found a firearm and a mobile phone through which, the SBU says, the woman maintained contact with her FSB supervisor.

Investigators notified the detainee of charges under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed under martial law.

The suspect is currently in custody without the right to post bail. If found guilty, she could face life in prison with confiscation of property.
