Zelenskiy met with Trump in New York. What is known

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky 22 on September met in New York with U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting was streamed by the Office of the President of Ukraine. During the presidents' remarks to journalists, representatives of the American and Ukrainian teams were present.

Trump has already expressed hope that Ukraine and the aggressor country Russia will reach an agreement, including regarding territories. He declined to reveal details, particularly whether Ukraine will be able to regain the temporarily occupied territories.

In response to the question whether illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree to a meeting with the Ukrainian president in Miami at the G20 summit, Trump said he does not know. However, he expressed the belief that Putin allegedly wants to end the war.

“Both of them [Trump and Zelensky] want to end the war,” stressed the head of the White House.

Zelensky, in turn, expressed hope that the war could be ended by winter and that Trump would help make it happen.

After a brief press briefing, the leaders continued the meeting behind closed doors.

RFE/RL correspondent in Washington Alex Raufoglu previously, citing sources, reported that before the meeting of the U.S. and Ukrainian presidents, representatives of Trump—Steve Vaitkoff and Jared Kushner—would join, as well as U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio and U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The journalist did not specify who from Ukraine would participate in the negotiations, nor whether the leaders would speak one-on-one.

During a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, the White House chief announced a quick end to the war in Ukraine, "sooner than people think." He also announced his readiness to impose "hellish sanctions" against Russia, "if necessary."

He also transmitted to Putin his message, in which he urged stopping the war.
