Trends in the world of repairs change over time. Indeed, plasterboard, popular for decades, is no longer considered a universal solution for leveling walls and ceilings.

This is what Telegraf told 57-year-old master of repairs Yuriy, who has been doing this job for almost 30 years. According to him, today this material is used much more selectively than before.

"Plasterboard, which was previously used to level walls and ceilings, is a past stage. Unless they are too crooked, then they surface them. Now, plastering and puttying are predominantly used," the master explained.

Why people are abandoning plasterboard.

Although plasterboard really allows you to quickly level a surface, it also has its drawbacks. In particular, when sheets are mounted on a frame, the structure "eats" part of the area.

If a room already has limited space, such leveling of walls may become an unaffordable luxury.

Moreover, due to the cavity inside the construction, sound insulation deteriorates. Probably it will need to be restored, spending extra time and money on building materials.

Everything depends on the condition of the walls.

For most standard walls with moderate irregularities, the scheme "plaster plus putty" remains a simple and practical option. However, plasterboard can still be useful in cases where irregularities are so large that leveling them with plaster in one go is simply impossible.

An ideal solution would be a combination of these two methods, depending on the initial condition of the material you have to work with.
