Ukrposhta changed rules in branches: who will now be accepted without waiting in line

Ukrposhta changed the order of customer service in most city branches where several service windows operate. The highest priority now goes to parcel operations – they will accept and issue parcels outside the general queue.

Who will be served out of turn at Ukrposhta

The decision to implement the new rules at Ukrposhta is linked primarily to air alerts, said the company's CEO Ihor Smilyanskyi.

First, they will serve those who:

came to send a parcel;

came to collect an already delivered shipment.

The reason for the changes is the specifics of postal logistics during air raids. If a branch stops operating and a parcel does not make it to the vehicle transporting it to the sorting center, it may stay there for another day.

The company gives an example of delivery from Kyiv to Odesa. In order for the shipment to arrive the next day, it must leave Kyiv around 22:00. By this time the parcel must:

be received at the branch;

be delivered to the sorting center;

be sorted;

be loaded into the vehicle.

Therefore, even a few hours of downtime due to an alarm can derail the entire downstream route.

Why even a few minutes matter

Smilyansky explained that during a prolonged air raid alarm a client can effectively lose an entire day of delivery.

If you are in line at 15:55, and at 16:00 an alarm sounds that lasts until 18:00 (and we receive a message that we must close the branch), it means you will arrive with the parcel after 18:00 and it will go out the next day. And if it is accepted before the alarm is announced, then even if the branch is closed, the parcel will go today and be in my native Odesa the next day,

– says Smilyansky.

The second priority is the issuance of parcels. Ukrposhta explains that they want parcels to spend as little time as possible directly in branches.

This is important also from a security perspective. If a branch or its premises are damaged due to shelling, the company refunds the value of the shipment, but some items have a significantly higher value for people.

Will the order of pension payments change

No. Pensions, payments, and other financial operations in branches will continue.

The company explains this by the fact that a financial operation can be completed after the air alarm ends. Meanwhile, with a physical shipment, the situation is different: it must be received, handed to sorting, and sent along the route.

If this logistical step is skipped, there may not be another opportunity to send the parcel until the next day.

By the way, the changes primarily affect city branches where more than one service window operates. According to Ukrposhta, the instructions have already been received by more than 90% of such branches.
