Authors of the draft new Civil Code provided for workers' right to ‘informational peace’ – the ability not to receive work calls and messages on weekends and outside working hours. This is reported by ‘Hlavkom’ citing a statement by the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.

According to Stefanchuk, this refers to a principle by which a person should not be troubled with work-related questions when they are not performing their professional duties. “This is a very important thing that distinguishes civilized legal orders from others,” the speaker of the Parliament noted.

In addition to the right to ‘informational peace’, the draft Civil Code also for the first time proposes enshrining the right to be forgotten. Stefanchuk explained that such a norm might apply in cases where a non-public person made a mistake in childhood. According to him, such information should not haunt a person for their entire life.

As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada 28 in April supported in the first reading the draft of the new Civil Code of Ukraine. The document envisions a wide modernization of private law, and before the second reading deputies submitted more than 15 thousand amendments.

Earlier, experts already drew attention to certain controversial provisions of the document. In particular, cautions were raised about the proposed right to ‘informational peace’ and the right to be forgotten, as their broad interpretation could affect access to publicly important information and open data.

The bill has already been adjusted after public criticism. In particular, a provision allowing marriage with 14 years in exceptional cases was removed.
