SBU Detains FSB 'Mole' in the Armed Forces: Was Preparing a Missile Strike on a Repair Battalion

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) military counterintelligence, with the involvement of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, exposed a mobilized service member whom the Russian security service recruited even before his conscription. According to the investigation, he was transmitting coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities in the Kharkiv region to the enemy.

According to the SBU, the agent attempted to adjust a rocket strike by Russia on the repair battalion of his brigade, which is engaged in restoring unmanned aerial vehicle complexes. Before the attack, he planned to leave the area under the pretense of a trip to a hospital.

Counterintelligence officers detained the service member in a company vehicle as he drove outside the military unit. Simultaneously, law enforcement took steps to secure the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

According to case materials, the man was recruited by the FSB even before mobilization, using his relative who lives in Russia. After conscription, he served as a master electrician in the repair unit for unmanned aerial systems, while also gathering information about the locations of his brigade and neighboring units.

During searches, five smartphones were seized from him, which, according to the investigation, he alternately used to encryptedly communicate with his Russian curator.
