A trilateral meeting on an energy truce will take place in the United States — ZN.UA

During negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a ZN.UA source in diplomatic circles, an agreement was reached to hold today’s meeting in a trilateral format. Participants may include head of the president’s office Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Rustem Umerov, Trump's envoys Jared Kushner, Steve Biegun, and Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who flew to the United States.

The main agenda item will be the energy truce—how the parties interpret it and ways to monitor its observance. According to the source, the Russian side will insist that issues of free navigation and the 'shadow' fleet exporting Russian oil be considered within the energy truce.

Freedom of navigation will also be beneficial for Ukraine, as it will allow it to export its crop harvests—wheat, corn, sunflower, and other crops. As for options for ending the war, it is expected that the development of relevant roadmaps could be influenced by a meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.

Earlier Zelensky stated that after his meeting with Trump there was also a meeting of Ukrainian and American negotiators. After it, Biegun and Kushner were supposed to contact the Russians and partners to discuss possible formats. By partners Zelensky meant those who 'can help with grain, who are interested'.

Before meeting Volodymyr Zelensky, Donald Trump expressed the belief that Vladimir Putin wants an end to the war. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio later said that the war is not in anyone’s interest, and for Russia it is especially terrible. In Rubio’s view, the war in Ukraine will ultimately end with an agreement reached at negotiations rather than a military victory by one side. Although there is currently no agreement, the United States continues to engage with both sides and seek opportunities to achieve one.
