In Kyiv, a Russian attack damaged the Saint Michael's Orthodox Church in Priorka

In Kyiv, as a result of a Russian attack 24 in September, the Saint Pokrovsky Church, built 120 years ago, was damaged. The historic building suffered damage to the windows, domes, and the old facade of yellow Kyiv brick.

I learned about this from the information of the head of the Podil district administration, Volodymyr Nako­nechny, and from a post by Kyiv local historian Kyrylo Stepanyets.

“From the enemy attack, the Saint Pokrovsky Church – the church 1906 year, the oldest church of the Mostytsky residential area and Vynohradar. Windows, domes and the old facade of yellow Kyiv brick were damaged—the part of the church that for over a century preserved the memory of this district,” wrote the head of the Podil district administration.

The local historian also confirmed that the church was struck by debris, which damaged the domes and windows.

“This church can be called a ‘dissident’ church. After all, it was here that the funeral service was held for at the end of 1980-s for Valeriy Marchenko, Vasyl Stus, Oleksa Tykhyi, and Yurii Lytvyn. True, there is little mention of these events on-site,” noted Stepanyets.

As a reminder, on the night of 24 September, the Russians attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles and attack drones. 2 people were killed, at least 8 were injured. In the maternity hospital in the Podil district, near which rocket fragments fell, windows and part of the building’s facade were damaged, and a person died in the parking lot near the medical facility.
