Norway will allocate about $9 billion to Ukraine in 2027 — most of the money will go to military aid

The Norwegian government plans to allocate 85 billion Norwegian kroner to support Ukraine in 2027, which equals approximately 9 billion dollars. The decision was announced on 24 September by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre during a meeting with the presidents of Ukraine and Finland, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Alexander Stubb, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The lion’s share of the funds will be directed to military assistance, with air defense as a key priority.

According to the Norwegian government press service, most of the planned funding will be provided as military aid. In addition to weaponry, part of the allocated sum will finance humanitarian assistance for Ukrainians and the protection of the country’s energy facilities.

“This support is vital not only for Ukraine but also for strengthening the security of our own country, which borders Russia. The funding is closely coordinated with our European partners and distributed according to Ukraine’s needs,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The head of the Norwegian government emphasized that Oslo will continue to support the Ukrainian armed forces to strengthen the country’s overall defense capabilities and resilience. In addition to the multi-year package for 2027, on the same day, 24 September, the EU Council approved Norway’s contribution of 1 billion Norwegian kroner to the Ukraine Facility program. These funds will support the work of Ukrainian state bodies, the provision of critically important services, and the implementation of reforms outlined in Ukraine’s Plan.

Europe is scaling up assistance ahead of the new heating season

Norway’s announcement came amid increased activity by Ukraine’s allies ahead of a difficult winter. European partners are simultaneously bolstering military and energy support for Kyiv, aware that Russia is preparing new strikes on critical infrastructure and is trying to exhaust Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.

The Norwegian government traditionally focuses on air defense, as this area of sky protection remains one of the most deficient for the Ukrainian military. At the same time, the humanitarian component of the package is intended to support the civilian population amid ongoing attacks on energy facilities.

Earlier, Informator reported that Poland is preparing a record aid package for the Ukrainian military, and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Warsaw is strengthening support for Kyiv due to an escalation of Russia’s hybrid warfare.
