The Office of the President denied information about a trilateral meeting with the US and Russia on an energy ceasefire

The Ukrainian delegation is already returning from the United States, and no trilateral meeting involving Russia took place. This was stated on 24 September by the presidential communications advisor Dmytro Lytvyn, refuting the relevant information.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports Lytvyn’s statement. The advisor commented on media reports about a possible meeting of representatives of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, stressing that the sources of those reports have no connection to the Ukrainian delegation.

"The Ukrainian delegation is on its way to Ukraine," Lytvyn said, adding that the media outlets that reported plans for the meeting "have no sources in the delegation."

Why the question of a pause in strikes on energy facilities flared up

The idea of a pause in strikes on energy infrastructure arose even before the possible New York meeting. According to media reports, a meeting may have taken place in the US with delegations from Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and envoys of Trump, where Kyiv would have been represented by Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov and head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Rustem Umerov, the US by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, and Russia by special envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

Secretary of State Rubio, after talks with Lavrov on the margins of the UN General Assembly session, said that Russia and Ukraine are interested in a temporary halt to mutual strikes on energy infrastructure and facilities related to the export of agricultural goods. At the same time, the Russian foreign minister emphasized that Russia will not pause the war against Ukraine for negotiations in any format.

Earlier, Informator reported that Russia carried out a massive strike on Kyiv precisely during a meeting between the president and US congressmen, at which strengthening sanctions against Moscow was discussed. Two people were killed then, and among the targets of the attack were once again residential buildings, a maternity hospital, and the capital’s energy infrastructure. We also wrote that the US administration insists on three urgent steps in the peace process — a ceasefire regarding energy, restoration of the "grain corridor," and holding a trilateral meeting, possibly in Abu Dhabi.
