"I don't like that there's a Russian flag here": Klitschko tore into organizers of the European Boxing Championships

Vladimir Klitschko criticized allowing Russian boxers into the Euro-2026 with a flag and anthem. The Ukrainian urged that this decision be reconsidered.

Former world heavyweight champion Vladimir Klitschko arrived in Sofia as a special guest of the European Boxing Championships. During the tournament, the Ukrainian reacted to the decision to allow Russian athletes to compete with state symbols, BTV Sport reports.

Klitschko spoke out against Russian symbols

The Russian national team includes 20 boxers at the European Championships. Representatives of the aggressor country are competing under their own flag, and if they win, their national anthem is to be played.

Klitschko said he does not support this decision and believes it needs to be reviewed.

"I am not satisfied with the decision that Russian athletes can compete under their own flag and hear their anthem. So many athletes, children, ordinary people have lost their lives, even during this tournament. I am against this! I don't like that there's a Russian flag here. I hope this decision will be reconsidered!"

he said in an interview with the Bulgarian television channel.

The Ukrainian called for maintaining sanctions

Klitschko also spoke in favor of continuing sports sanctions against Russia. In his view, the punishments must remain visible because they show the international community's stance toward the state's actions.

"There must be consequences! If there are no consequences when you do evil in society, then you support it. Society must see these sanctions!"

the former world champion added.

The European Boxing Championships are being held in Sofia. Klitschko attended the tournament as a special guest and spoke with organizers and athletes.
