Funding the occupiers and suspicion from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)

Born in Lviv, he built billion-dollar wealth in Russia as the founder of Alfa Group together with partners Petr Aven and Andrey Kosogov. Since February 28, 2022, he has been under sanctions by the EU, the USA, the United Kingdom, and other countries due to ties with Putin's administration. According to the SBU, Fridman used Alfa Group's resources to finance the Russian army, organized the supply of rations, clothing, and equipment under the "Russian Army" brand to the front lines, and the group's insurance companies took on the insurance of military equipment and the lives of the occupiers. According to the investigation, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Fridman "injected" about 2 billion rubles into several Russian military factories. In September 2023, the SBU notified him of suspicion — facing up to 8 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Assets worth 17 billion seized, and in response — a billion-dollar lawsuit

In Ukraine, Fridman and partners owned Sense Bank (formerly Alfa-Bank), producer of "Morshynska" and "Myrhorodska" IDS Ukraine, as well as a stake in Kyivstar — a total of 20 companies worth over 17 billion UAH, which the court seized in October 2023. In response, the holding ABH Holdings, connected to the Alfa-Bank structures, filed a lawsuit against Ukraine for over a billion dollars — demanding compensation for the nationalization of banking units.
