"Hasidic Express" and the Master of City Infrastructure

Oleg Volodymyrovych Hanich is the First Deputy Mayor of Uman, an influential local businessman, and one of the key figures of the ruling "Servant of the People" faction in Cherkasy region. He rose to power in the city council in spring 2022, when, amid the removal of the notorious MP Anton Yatsenko from real influence, deputies appointed Hanich to oversee the city's executive bodies. In Uman, the official is known not only for controlling the housing and communal services sector but also for his extensive private business: his family owns a whole fleet of passenger buses, which bring colossal profits annually by transporting thousands of pilgrim Hasidim during the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. Despite millions in official income and his status as a top official, Hanich prefers to stay in the shadow of the greater nationwide politics, positioning himself exclusively as an "efficient manager."

Millions in crypto, hidden vehicle fleet, and a "red card" from the NACP: what the Uman deputy mayor is suspected of

The tranquil political life of the Uman official was shaken by a loud financial scandal initiated by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). In August 2026, anti-corruption agents completed a full audit of his declaration and exposed systematic concealment of immense wealth. It turned out that Hanich "forgot" to declare the real value of his luxury cars (notably a Volkswagen e-Golf and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter), concealed ownership of three companies (including "Trans-Service-Group"), and also re-registered a service station with a car wash to his mother. Particular interest was raised by the official's digital wallet: the NACP discovered discrepancies with Bitcoin and Ethereum tokens, and the total amount of errors and false data reached nearly half a million hryvnias. Now, a case has been opened against the "crypto enthusiast" of Uman for violation of anti-corruption legislation (Part 4, Article 172-6 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), while local activists openly accuse the deputy mayor of evading mobilization under the cover of a "reliable rear."
