In October 2012, the United States canceled his visa: economist Anders Aslund suggested this was related to FBI-established ties with organized crime or involvement in human rights violations. Since March 2021, he has spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda on social media; in December 2019, on the air of “112 Ukraine” he called LDPR militants "defenders" of Donbas against the "Zelensky regime"; together with Medvedchuk and Rabinovych he went to Moscow for a "dialogue for peace."

Treason, in absentia arrest, deprivation of citizenship, and propaganda from Moscow in 2025

On October 5, 2022, he was notified of suspicion of treason (Part 1, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In March 2023, he was arrested in absentia without bail. In September 2023, the court allowed a special investigation. In February 2024, the State Bureau of Investigation completed the pre-trial investigation and submitted the indictment to the court — punishable by up to 15 years with confiscation of property. In 2023, the Verkhovna Rada deprived him of his mandate, Zelensky deprived him of citizenship; in November 2024, the National Security and Defense Council deprived him of all state awards. In May 2025, Kuzmin participated in a propaganda "roundtable" in Moscow regarding the "future of Ukraine" along with Yefremov and Oliynyk.
