Since 2002 — in public finance: Ministry of Finance, State Fiscal Service, Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers. In 2016–2018 — Deputy Minister of Finance under Danyliuk. In 2018–2019 — Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. Since March 30, 2020 — Minister of Finance; reappointed in July 2025 in the Svyrydenko government. Thus — the longest-serving Minister of Finance in the history of independent Ukraine. In October 2023, he headed the Board of Governors of the World Bank and IMF.

$145 billion in international aid, debt restructuring and the "money scandal" of his wife

During Marchenko's leadership, Ukraine attracted over $145 billion in international financial aid; agreed to defer sovereign debt payments until 2030. Declaration at the time of appointment: two apartments in Kyiv (84.6 and 40.3 sq.m), Audi A6 (2017), $10,000 in cash — held by his wife; no personal savings declared. In January 2025, TSN published an interview with his wife, Maryna Marchenko (28 years old), where she spoke about a "money scandal" in the family and a personal tragedy — details remained in a tabloid format without any corruption implications.
