Marmash began his judicial career in December 2009 following an appointment by Presidential Decree. He has spent a long time working as an investigating judge, exercising judicial control at the pre-trial investigation stage. In addition to his practical court work, Marmash is involved in educational projects in the legal field — in autumn 2025, he completed specialized training at the National School of Judges of Ukraine and officially gained the opportunity to teach colleagues as a judge-trainer on the topic of international experience in combating torture.

Questionable decisions and property cases

The property status and professional activity of the judge have repeatedly been subjects of critical reports by investigative journalists and public anti-corruption organizations (notably NGO "Non-Stop Ukraine"). In the media space, Volodymyr Marmash was accused of potentially creating a "preferential circuit" for the territorial office of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES) in the Lviv region. According to investigators, through manipulations with addresses and artificial circumvention of automated case distribution, over 90% of BES detectives' petitions concerning searches, property arrests, and blocking of accounts of Lviv businesses ended up with Marmash, who promptly satisfied them. Additional resonance occurred at the end of 2025 when the judge exempted a contractor accused of embezzling almost 3.7 million hryvnias of budget funds during repairs of the children's hospital "Okhmatdyt" in Lviv from criminal liability. Moreover, analysts pointed to his property declarations, noting the presence of at least 7 real estate objects owned by his family and questions regarding the completeness of declaring his wife's extrajudicial income, who also works in the judiciary field.
